Following long delivery times, Apple no longer accepts orders for selected high-end Mac mini and Mac Studio models. They are listed as “currently unavailable” on the company’s online store.

This comes within weeks of delivery times for most Mac mini and Mac Studio models slipping to a few months.

At the beginning of the month, we reported on the extended delivery times for the Mac mini M4 and Mac Studio. That came within weeks of Apple discontinuing orders for the 512GB M3 Ultra Mac Studio.

The shipping times of most models with 64GB RAM or higher ran into 10-12 weeks, or worse, 4-6 months. It appeared Apple was either struggling to keep up with demand or gearing up for an M5 refresh.

Now, a week later, Apple no longer accepts orders for these models. It lists them as “currently unavailable” on its online store.

This essentially means that Apple no longer plans to accept orders for these configurations in the foreseeable future.

While the base Mac mini and Mac Studio models are still available, their delivery times also run into a few weeks.

RAM-ageddon or M5 Mac Studio and Mac mini incoming?

Apple could be gearing up to unveil the M5 Mac Studio and Mac mini within the next few weeks. Or it may not have enough DRAM inventory to meet the increased demand for its desktop Macs, forcing it to stop selling them altogether.

Apple could have continued accepting orders and shipped these models months later, as it has done in the last few weeks. But it may have chosen to pull them entirely to make way for an upcoming M5 refresh, which could carry higher prices.

The Mac Studio and M4 Mac mini have become popular in the AI community in recent months for their ability to run large language models (LLMs) smoothly. This led to a surge in demand for these variants, especially for high-end variants with 48GB of memory or more.
